Gratitude
Friends
Friendships are a crucial part of our lives. It is the people we choose and they choose us. No one forces us to form a connection with them, yet we have bonds that no one can replace. We truly love our friends, and they accept us as we are and love us back. They are there for us through the good and the bad, and we honestly appreciate them. But how can we show this appreciation and gratitude that fills our hearts?

The first thing you can do is to prioritize them. This may seem like it is not quite related, but when you prioritize your friends you give them one of the most valuable things in life: time. We all are given the exact same amount of time within the day: 24 hours. What we choose to do in those 24 hours shows what our priorities are. Make sure to make time for your friends to show how grateful you are to have them in your life.

Another thing that you can do is communicate with them. This means truly communicating. It is a trend within our generation for people to start losing the desire for face to face interactions or valuing conversations, but one way in which you can show your gratitude to a friend is by talking to them and really listening to them. Be with each other and talk about whatever comes to mind. Share your struggles, share your happiness, share anything that you want, pour your hearts out. That aspect of a physical presence really does make a vibe and connection that is impossible to replicate otherwise. Similarly, you can also encourage your friend, be by their side through things, and help them through whatever they are going through. This way you are showing your friends that they matter to you, that you are grateful to have them as a part of your life, and that you care.

As you can see, gratitude has a huge impact on our life. When you find ways to incorporate gratitude, you will become happier, and when you are happier you are able to share that happiness with those around you and make them happier. As a result, slowly, little by little the world starts to become a happier, more grateful place. Saying thank you is easy, and many of us do it merely out of habit, but that causes it to start to lose its meaning. So make an effort to be genuine, to be sincere, and say it when you really mean it. As they say, actions speak louder than words, so make sure to show your friends your gratitude as well.

Below you can find some ways to show your friends your gratitude:
- Sending a thank you text randomly. This is such an easy gesture, but it is one that is so heartwarming to receive. Simply state that you are grateful to have that person in your life, and add in a few reasons as to why. It will definitely make that person’s day!
- Do a favor for them. This can take on many forms, but it can be very simple. Let’s say your friend is extremely busy right now with everything going on in life, but you know that their dog needs attention and walks. You can offer to watch the dog and go on a walk with it for a day or two. Another easy example, especially if you are roommates with your friend, is to take on their chores for the day. Do the dishes for them, clean the house, and so forth. It won’t cause you too much of a hassle, but it will definitely relieve a great burden from them.
- Get them a little thank you gift. This does not need to be anything extravagant, but something little to show your appreciation for them, and that they are on your mind. Some examples could include getting them a bouquet of flowers, buying them a cup of coffee, or making some fresh, homemade chocolate chip cookies for them.
