Social skills, which include listening, are the building blocks of emotional intelligence. It stems from how people want to be seen, heard, and noticed. Listening also brings a form of connection that sparks action within a group or organization. Communication is key. It is important to speak to individuals whether they are our coworkers, friends, or family, and to listen to their side of the story. If issues arise make sure to politely confront them with your perspective on the issue so things can be resolved peacefully, and do not forget to listen.

Effective listening also relates to emotional intelligence because it shows the concern you have for others. By sharing your concern, it can form cohesive bonds that help build trust. Enacting effective listening helps reduce internal conflicts while also reducing the likelihood of future conflicts occurring. Besides resolving conflicts, effective listening also helps to show that you are interested in what the speaker has to say. It also helps when you are providing feedback and finding out what makes others tick when it comes to working.
