A World Without Racism is Loving

Love And Social Media

In the era of social media, it may seem like sharing love is always at your fingertips. With just a simple double tap on Instagram or a click on Twitter, you can give a heart to someone’s post. It is a very simple act that most of us do out of habit, but it can have a big impact on the person that made the post. In terms of romantic relationships, social media can have both positive and negative impacts on the people involved. Since social media is still relatively new and changing constantly, it can be difficult to establish boundaries when it comes to posting about a relationship.

Comparison is one of the biggest reasons that people find social media to be a negative factor in a relationship. When someone posts about their significant other, they only post the highlights and best moments, which is fair because it would seem uncanny to post about personal issues that are going on between two people in a relationship. The problem comes when people start to compare the perfectly curated Instagram feed of a friend or celebrity and think that the person’s relationship is perfect. This is almost never the case, and there are always things that are going on behind the scenes. It is important to remind yourself that nobody has a perfect relationship as we are all human and face our own struggles behind closed doors. Just because your relationship does not look perfect on social media does not mean that it is not worthwhile.

On the flip side, social media has the ability to bring people closer together. Dating apps are becoming very popular and provide a wonderful opportunity to meet people that you might have never met in your day-to-day life. Many apps are creating sections to meet friends and join groups, and even if they don’t ultimately lead to a relationship, you still have the chance to broaden your horizon and make connections. Another positive aspect of social media is that it keeps people connected. Maybe a couple lives far away from their family and does not have the chance to see them in person very often. By posting pictures together on social media, it lets people know that you are together and enjoying life without having to tell people individually. It can also help in long-distance relationships because it adds additional ways to communicate other than texting and calling. Sending each other posts that you think are funny or the other person might find interesting are easy ways to let them know that you are thinking of them throughout the day.

Social media can very easily interfere with a relationship because of how easy it is to compare your life to others and thinking that your relationship is not as good as everyone else’s, but it is important to remember that nobody is perfect and love is very personal and does not always have to be shared online. On the other hand you can use social media to positively interact with others and let them know they matter to you.
